Summer Under the Big Top

Circus Juventas summer camps are all about creating a safe space where students can have new adventures, experience traditional and contemporary circus arts and global inspirations, and receive encouragement in a non-competitive, nurturing environment. A one-of-a-kind summer camp experience in the Twin Cities, our week-long, daily sampler, or teen high-flying adventure day camps are led by an internationally-renowned troupe of coaches in our award-winning big top. Our camps are designed to delight, challenge, and inspire campers in new and creative ways.

Summer camps are a great way to experience the magic of circus without the year-long commitment of our regular classes. CJ coaches are committed to working individually with every student based on the students’ needs and abilities. Many of our campers return each year — and we welcome new students too.

Circus Juventas offers three types of summer camp options: Performance week-long camps, daily sampler camps, and teen high-flying adventure camps. All options provide experience of ALL genres of the circus arts: aerial, acrobatics, balance, juggling, and theater. All camps run 9 a.m.-3:45 p.m. and are for ages 6-18. Students are assigned groups based on age. Buddy requests are available.

Summer camp 2023 registration will open Monday, February 20 at 10:00 a.m. A link to the summer camp registration will be sent by email to all pre-registered students.
Before registering, brand new students will need to fill out the pre-registration form. Families already pre-registered for classes during the 2022-2023 season need not pre-register again. SUMMER CAMP FAQ'S:

Parents of summer campers have great questions when registering for camp. We’ve curated many over the years, with the most frequently asked questions listed below. Click on the tabs to sort the questions by category. If you still have questions, feel free to call!

When is the performance?

Week-long performance camp participants perform in an end-of-week showcase for their parents/guardians. The performance takes place at 3 p.m. on Friday. We recommend arriving early to provide time for parking. The curtain opens for seating 5-10 minutes before the show.

Does CJ offer child care before or after camp?

No. We ask that parents/guardians drop off campers no earlier than 8:45 a.m. and pick up at 3:45 p.m. Campers must be signed in and out every day.

Are CJ t-shirts required for purchase by campers?

It is not required but is encouraged. T-shirts must be pre-ordered as part of the registration process.

Is there anything else campers should bring?

We recommend campers pack a day bag in which to store a lunch box, water bottle, mid-morning and mid-afternoon snacks, athletic shoes, and socks. Campers should write their names on everything they pack.

What should campers wear?

We recommend campers wear comfortable clothing in which they can move (i.e.: tank tops and leggings; shorts and t-shirts; leotards, etc.), but nothing too baggy so as to hinder spotting. Long hair should be pulled back and large jewelry removed. Campers should bring close-toed shoes for some of the equipment.

Do campers need to pack a lunch?

Yes. Food is not provided at Circus Juventas.

When are confirmations sent after registrations are submitted?

Summer camp confirmation emails are sent immediately after payment is submitted and registration is complete.

What is the cancellation policy?

Circus Juventas reserves the right to cancel a camp due to insufficient enrollment, in which case, a full refund is processed. Should you decide to voluntarily withdrawal before May 2, all but the deposit of $125.00 for week-long camps and $30.00 per day for sampler camps may be refunded. All registrations fees are non-refundable. Any cancellations made after May 2 are not eligible for a refund. Please contact our administrative team with questions: adminstaff@circusjuventas.org.

What is the refund policy for summer camps?

Campers who voluntarily withdraw from camp before May 2 are refunded all but the deposit of $125 for week-long camps and $30 per day for sampler camps. The annual registration fee is non-refundable. Any cancellations made after May 2 are not eligible for a refund.

If a camper misses a day of camp due to illness, can the time missed be made up?

No. Due to the nature of the program, we do not offer make-up opportunities.

Do you have a waiting list if camps are full?

Yes. If a student requests to register for a full camp, she/he/they will be notified and offered to be placed on the wait list. CJ notifies wait-listed campers when and if space becomes available.

Do campers need to have prior circus experience to register for camp?

No. In fact, most of our campers come to camp with little to no experience (though we have many campers who return summer after summer).

Who can attend the Friday afternoon performance?

The performance is meant mostly for parents/guardians, as we have limited audience space.

Can campers request to be put in the same group as a friend?

Yes, they can. Campers are able to request one buddy as part of the registration process. Please note: for two campers to be placed together they both need to request each other as buddies. Additionally, students who are more than 2 years apart in age may not be put into groups together in order to provide the best training for both students.

What equipment do campers get to work with?

Campers get to experience a little bit of everything; from trapeze to trampoline, silks to low wire, juggling to acrobatics, our camps are designed for high-energy kids.

Who are the summer camp coaches?

While campers are supervised by a handful of our full-time, international coaching staff, they spend the majority of their time with our student coaches, who train year-round at Circus Juventas in our most advanced acts. Our student coaches bring a high level of enthusiasm and professionalism to the camp environment and have a really good time training our campers.

What is the daily schedule like?

Campers arrive between 8:45 and 9 a.m. and are signed in at the front desk. At 9 they meet with their assigned group leader for welcome activities and warm up. These groups (which remain the same for week-long campers) cycle throughout stations, with a few breaks for snacks and coach demonstrations. After lunch, weather permitting, campers have time outside in the adjoining park OR participate in a craft activity. The remaining time is devoted to circus activities (stations, etc.) until campers are picked up at 3:45 p.m. Between 3:45 and 4 p.m. campers are signed out by guardians with their group leader. Week-long campers spend time later in the week preparing for Friday’s performance.

What is the age range for participating campers?

Campers as young as 6 (going into first grade in the fall) and as old as 15 can register for summer camps at Circus Juventas. Our Teen Adventure Camps is for ages 13-18.

How many campers participate in each camp?

We take up to 80 campers per day/week and have a ratio of 8:1 campers to coaches.

Do you send out notifications when camp registration opens?

Yes, we do. Students who have previously enrolled in classes or camps at Circus Juventas are automatically notified. For new campers to get onto this mailing list, we recommend completing the PRE-REGISTRATION process A.S.A.P.

When does summer camp registration typically open?

Online registration for summer camps opens in February and remains open until one week before the camp you are registering for starts.

Are there any additional costs for summer camp?

All CJ students are required to pay an annual, non-refundable $45 registration fee. This is the only additional cost outside of camp tuition.

What are the options to pay for camps?

We recommend paying in full at the time of registration, but require a deposit at the time of registration ($125 for week-long, $30 per day for samplers in addition to the $45 non-refundable, registration fee). All balances MUST be paid in full by May 2. Registrations received after May 2 must be paid in full at the time of registration.

What are the camp dates and times?

Camps run in June and July. A camp day lasts from 9 a.m. to 3:45 p.m.

What is the difference between the week-long performance camps and sampler camps?

In terms of the structure of the day, there really is no difference between the two. The difference has to do mostly with scheduling and commitment of time: campers registered for a week-long performance camp commit to a full week of camp (Monday through Friday) and participate in a showcase performance for parents at the end of the week. Campers sign up for sampler camps on a pick and choose basis, so a full week commitment is not required. There is also a half-day (morning) option for the sampler camps.
